Enrolled Agent | Federally Licensed Tax Practitioner | Tampa

taxsIf you need the services of an Enrolled Agent you have come to the right place. At Garcia & Cuadra, P.A. we have been servicing both individuals and business entities in accounting and tax matters area since 1980. It is our personal mission to provide top quality results to our business and individual clients in our areas of expertise, while balancing our professional commitment to excellence with our social and ethical responsibilities to our staff and clients.

What is an Enrolled Agent? An enrolled agent (EA) is a federally licensed tax practitioner who has technical expertise in the field of taxation and is empowered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury to represent taxpayers for audits, collections, and appeals before all administrative levels of the Internal Revenue Service on a national level. EAs are required to abide by the provisions of the Treasury Department’s Circular 230, which provides the regulations governing the practice of EAs before IRS.

What are the differences between EAs and other tax preparers?   Only EAs demonstrate their competence in matters of taxation and report their hours of continuing professional education to IRS. Enrolled agents are the only taxpayer representatives who receive their right to practice directly from the U.S. government (certified public accountants and attorneys are licensed by states and their licenses are state specific). Unlike attorneys and certified public accountants, who may or may not choose to focus on taxes, all EAs specialize in taxation.

Privilege and the Enrolled Agent. The IRS Restructuring and Reform Act of 1998 provide a limited client privilege for federally authorized practitioners (those bound by the Treasury Department’s Circular 230 regulations). This privilege allows confidentiality between the taxpayer and the enrolled agent when the taxpayer is being represented in cases involving audits and collection matters. It is not applicable for the preparation and filing of a tax return. The privilege does not apply to state tax matters although a number of states have an accountant-client privilege. Ask us how privilege may affect you.

How can you help me? As enrolled agents, we advise, represent, and prepare tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, estates, trusts, and any other entity with tax-reporting requirements. Our expertise in the continually changing field of taxation enables us to effectively represent taxpayers audited by IRS, as well as those needing to file an appeal on examination and tax collections matters. In addition to tax preparation and tax representation, we offer other business-related services that include:

  • Bookkeeping
  • Financial planning or budgeting
  • Payroll service
  • Financial statements preparation

Because of our diverse backgrounds, it is important to talk with our EAs about how our expertise may assist you. We have developed a reputation for professional excellence through the high quality of our services at the behest of our clients. As your tax practitioner, we will go above and beyond to make sure you are being taken care of and receiving the attention you deserve. It is especially important to us that our clients recognize that we are not your typical tax advisors. We service both businesses and individuals in Tampa and surrounding Florida areas. We assure you that you will always feel comfortable and confident in our abilities to properly maintain and handle all of your accounting and tax services and probably represent you to the IRS.
